Today is the last day of my 40 Day Sugar Fast. I have been doing this along with Wendy Speake, with her book 40 Day Sugar Fast, and a whole group of people on Facebook. I have found this fast to be very interesting. I honestly didn’t think I would succeed at it. But, alas, here I am at day 40, which is ironically Valentine’s Day, and I have succeeded. It hasn’t been very hard, which has worried me. Have you ever tried something that you knew would be hard, but it ended up being fairly easy? That is how this fast has been for me. Towards the beginning of the fast I was worried that I was doing it wrong because it was so easy to give up sugar. The past few days have, actually, been the hardest for me. I have just been having to remind myself that this is for my good and God's glory, and that there is only a few days left until this fast is done. Of cure, I plan on giving myself a few days where I have permission to eat sugar, but then I plan on starting the sugar fast over again.
Another way that this fast has been interesting is that God has worked in ways I didn’t even realize related to the fast. I assumed that, during this fast, God would work in ways related to my health. And He has, but He has worked in other ways also. I have grown in Him during these past 40 days. I have had fellowship with Him, spent some awesome times in prayer with Him, made some decisions that were hard but I knew they were right. And I have made some tremendous growth in my life.
The last way this fast has been interesting is that everything that I have been studying, whether it be Bible related or not, has intersected with each other. I have seen the same things over and over in many different things. In people’s posts on social media, in books I’m reading, in conversations, in my personal growth. It’s been awe inspiring to see God working all these things together. God has brought all of these things together to grow me in ways I never imagined.
I had someone ask me this morning what my biggest take away from this fast was. At first I really didn't know how o answer that question. After thinking on it for a few minutes I realize that my biggest take away is this...I want more of God. During the past 40 days I have had some amazing prayer times. I have really felt the presence of God in my life, and I want more of that. In today's reading time of Wendy's book, she says that this fast was never about sugar. God doesn't want your sugar, He wants you. When you get rid of the things, the idols, that you run to instead of God, you can then have amazing fellowship with God. That's what I want for the rest of my life. I want more of Him!
